If you can't beat 'em, pay for it...

Not to give any business to Ace Pawn shops but this is worth taking a look at!
Little5 ring for sale
In my humble opinion that's a lot of coin for a ring...already I guess if Fiji (or other teams) spend $10000/ year on the team and haven't won for while maybe it's the way to go...
Most likely it's a Cutter ring as they have Kroger bags full of them sitting around at Papa Kirkhams place. Hell, why not cash in on one of them?
I'd ask the Frats to form an orderly line at the pawn shop door...;)

Kroger bags full of them . . . now that's funny!

That ring is most likely from the 70's. As they went to silver and are now, according to Balfour, using semi-precious stainless steel. I had one of these made in 2002 and the cost was $560.00. So $790.00 is not that unrealistic given the price of gold.

Tom, you are a Little 500 god.

Tom really isn't a Little 500 god, he is just a troll sitting under the bleachers feeding off teams he coaches.

I'll let it go but be nice eh?

Don't get me wrong I don't always agree with Tom but the man has a ring so it doesn't really matter how he got it

If sitting under the bleachers would get me 6 rings and 8 HoF riders, I'd do it too.

Its just like the guy in the leisure suit at the bar. He'll try his line on every woman at the bar. He'll get slapped, ignored, and dissed in every possible way but, eventually with painful persistence, he'll go home with somebody.

Tom's experience proves two maxims:

99% of winning is showing up

Persistence pays (even if it ruins your slugging average.)

I might buy it and give it to that guy that doesn't think fast people should race in L5.

I lost 2 rings but would never pay $750 for one! Sheesh.

correction tom won 6 rings not one. the thought that he feeds off the teams he coaches as a joke as he gives far more to them that they could ever give to him.
march 9 @10:57--- get a life asshole since you clearly wont ever get a ring.

I think Randy Strong had one exactly like this stolen from him out of his motel room (I gave him one of mine when I heard). Doubt anyone who didn't earn one would ever buy and wear it. The only one I know that did was Jerry Tardy. Guessing that ring will likely sit on display for a long time.

Oops, correction- it didn't look like yellow gold in the main pic. The last year for yellow gold rings was 1974. 75 was the Silver Anniversary, and they continued with the clever sterling until 79. 80 and after were shiny non-ferrous, but not precious metal. I think gold rings started pretty early, maybe even in the 50s.

There is more to life than getting a ring. Although its nice already having one, but its about the experience and enjoyment on and off the track. Something that Tom doesn't provide.

L5 is a joke. No one gives a shit about this race outside of Bloomington. Get a life.

Bill B said...

Ok Mr. Anonymous, you're right for the most part. But in Bloomington, and among parts of the IU alum community, people DO care about L5, which can't really be said for any other bike racing in North America. When you can show me another bike race between, oh, say Tokyo and Munich that attracts 20,000+ paying spectators, and TV coverage, come back to me and tell me how much L5 has no relevant following. It's every other bike race (other than TdF) that no one gives a shit about.

for the record twilight criterium gets 30,000+ spectators and TV coverage...but the spectators don't have to buy tickets as far as I know.

what I think is the coolest thing about L5 is not the #of spectators and the TV coverage (I mean c'mon)---but the unique history---the fact that it's been going so strong in a college community in rural indiana for so long is incredible.

hopefully that will continue, since all this younger generation of teenages wants to do is text each other and play video games and surf the net.

apparently the younger generations of little fivers are interested in removing the people who actually ride bikes under the assertion that the fast people are too fast.

it must be all those video games... people would rather pretend to exercise (wii sports?!) than actually go out and ride their bikes and do work.

waah waah waah.

It must be the fact that they can shoot their mouths off with no fear of being held accountable for what they are saying.
