Are we having a sendoff for the I.U. Track Nats team?

shamwow said...

there's an IU track nats team?

Anonymous said...

luke momper, 2012 Little 500 champion, is racing track nats

Anonymous said...

lance armstrong has already been stripped of his titles, delts are next

Anonymous said...

Can PDT get stripped of their second place for being a bunch of bitches

Anonymous said...

^^^I agree. On point.

Anonymous said...

that applies to most Little 5 teams

Anonymous said...

Theta Chi is gonna be a contender this year and maybe DU, watch for them in fall and spring series

Anonymous said...

Haha good one DU. Stop self promoting

Anonymous said...

Because fall and spring series determine who wins the race. Right beta and csf?

Anonymous said...

austin is looking pretty fast. du will be up there for sure

Anonymous said...

People who i've noticed looking fast this year: Kraggie (BETA), Austin (DU), Charlie McClary (FIJI), Paul Smith. (DELTS) Whimmer & Torrence of (SIG EP)

-3rd party perspective

Anonymous said...

I also forgot Brian Arfman of (Sigma Chi)

Thomas Wimmer said...

It's Wimmer, but thanks homie.

Anonymous said...

what a long list of mediocrity. no hans or youngs anymore

Anonymous said...

Blunts, bitches, booze,Becker

Anonymous said...

and 56th in the individual pursuit and 58th in the kilo for Luke Momper. Delts looking good for next year

Anonymous said...

Who are whimmer and McClary? And kragie hasn't ever done shit. Arfman is a joke.

Austin, Becker and Smith look like the real deal.

-Mr. Neutral

Anonymous said...

Also, turner Duncan needs to get back on his bike and stop lifting weights. Stop trying to be so fratty.

-Mr. Neutral

Anonymous said...

Cutters will destroy everyone, beta will be decent but their coaching sucks and delts will try to ride last year race and sucking wheels all day won't work. Cutters lap the field. DePasse, Harbison, Nixon and a fourth that's Irrelevent because the first 3 will all be top 8 ITT's. Luke Momper is a crybaby pretty boy bitch who thinks he's a lot better than he really is and track nats showed that. Hopefully Bishop paid for his travel expenses for that ass beating
-Realist

Anonymous said...

How the hell can you say that Austin and Becker are the real deal? Get off this blog if you are going to say stupid stuff like that

Anonymous said...

look for Joe Greenlee to bring Sigma Chi back up to the top spot. according to USA Cycling austin hasn't raced since March this year - clearly he's been racing all summer and is super fit. NOT

http://www.usacycling.org/results/index.php?compid=356348&all=1

Anonymous said...

If you race all summer you actually lose fitness overall....but good job with your knowledge.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, I read that too. Bradley Wiggins wasn't fit at all at the Olympics after racing in le tour.

Anonymous said...

Austin punctured a lung you dumb twat. Harbisson is a pudgy hipster who can't ride worth shit. Depasse is good for at least 1 crash/year. Nixon is solid. Does greenle ride bikes? And when was sig chi at the top, they lost all their talent.

Anonymous said...

He's got a cool leg tattoo though, and he's funny on group rides when he hits on girls.

Anonymous said...

you morons will believe anything. losing fitness from racing? i suppose you make your grade worse by taking tests too and lance armstrong didn't dope

Anonymous said...

LA did not dope! LOLOLOLOL

Anonymous said...

Becker is a joke...there's no point in buying a power meter if your 20 minute power is 200 watts...compare that to Graham's 600...

Anonymous said...

So who's blowing graham? He's good for crits but needs to learn to climb. Where are the KOMs graham? Step up pussy

-Mr. Neutral

Anonymous said...

KOMs don't mean shit, especially with the baby hills around here.

Also Delts are homo.

Anonymous said...

Long odds geraint?

Anonymous said...

Haha. First off, I'll admit I posted as "third party perspective." I didn't mean for it to turn into another BVN bash session, I just wanted to compliment some guys who I have seen riding strong on some of the group rides.

Wimmer, sorry for spelling your name wrong. Whoever is bashing on Luke for nationals is an idiot. Snaps to him for being the only rider to represent OUR collegiate team against the big name teams. Whoever posted about Harbison being hilarious on group rides is accurate..Sam is the man.

Not sure why everyone hates on here so much. After doing Wednesday Worlds and the Social rides since school started I really hope we could maybe get a collegiate team to Nationals this year which is why I posted an encouraging message in the first place. Not to mention it's really fun riding with everyone and just goofing off while living a healthy lifestyle.

IUCC rides will be starting sometime in the weeks ahead and I hope a group of serious cyclists can come together for some fun rides throughout the Winter.

-Graham Dewart

Anonymous said...

momper sucks period.

Anonymous said...

Delts period.

Anonymous said...

There are no odds, Delts, Nowkowski, Bishop will win.

Anonymous said...

Delts cutters theta chi and beta should be the only teams on the track. Anyone else showing up is a slap in the face. Stay home, drink beer, and don't come try to play with the big boys. You will get your face stomped in.

-Mr. Neutral

Haywood said...

"Is he still coaching those retards over at Collins? Can't wait to see them fail miserably again."

Because you define "fail miserably" as an all-rookie team and finish in the top ten.

More mental masturbation from the “Intelligentsia” at BVN.

Anonymous said...

The alpha and the omega this is our year. Delta alpha throw it up. Right hand on the bible left to sky.

Anonymous said...

Phi Delts are a bunch of two faced, lying assclowns

Anonymous said...

Collins did great in the race last year, they had a solid group of girls and that showed from their finish. Their girls have been out putting miles on this fall as well, kudos to them and Lusk for helping resurrect a program that hasn't had a top ten team in a long time.

Anonymous said...

Mr. Neutral, please keep your uninformed opinions on the contenders to yourself, you have zero credibility. Zero.

Also, for the race this year, they should just play a month compilation from Velobeats in lieu of the shit B97 songs they usually play during the race.

IU Track Nats was a complete embarrassment. Where's the motivation people? There were more IU guys racing at MTV this summer. Did momper ever even crack the top 50 in anything?

Anonymous said...

IUCC should really try to field a team at nats. it's a crime for us not to with all the talent around.

Tom said...

"Did Momper ever even crack the top 50 in anything?"

Great!, let's be critical of the one guy who took it upon himself to train and compete. It's not where he finished, it's that he went to Texas and participated.

Being critical of IUCC when it comes to Track Nats is fairly reasonable, there is no reason for IU not to have a team every year. But if the Anonymous posters on this board would start helping and stop criticizing, the discussion here would be much different.

I was under the impression the IUCC Alumni Advisory Board was setup to address this type of thing.

Ryan Knapp (Team Panther presented by Competitive Cyclist)
Fred Rose (Scholars Inn Bakehouse/BikeReg.com)
Mike Sherer (Kelly Benefits Strategy’s Pro Cycling)
Eric Young (Bissell Pro Cycling)

how are any of these guys helpful?? you just picked guys who were fast in college, but have no vested interest in seeing IUCC succeed. my bet is none of them have given any input whatsoever that has helped IUCC develop a team for nats

Tom said...

I didn't pick them and if you read the page, you will see that members would send questions to IUCC and they would forward them to the proper individual on the alumni board. There are no active links to the board members email addresses.

to tciucc@gmail.com: if there were a group of 3-4 motivated riders who are motivated and A's/B's who can upgrade to A's by Feb. how would they best prepare to qualify for nationals?

Anonymous said...

^ride a lot and get good results. Also when it comes to collegiate, ride for IU and not your Little 5 team. People tend to work only with their friends and see other IU riders as their competition.

-Mr. Neutral

IU people who were at MTV this summer. No order best or worst just ppl who were there. Found names off truesport. more then enough ppl to develop a proper track team plus all the other L5ers could at least check it out..

luke momper, Nick Torrance, Chris west, James Calvetti, Kevin Depasse, Tim Nixon, brant powell, Sam Harbison, eric anderson, guy east im sure there are more these are just names i saw.

Anonymous said...

We are talking about Road Nationals not track...

Anonymous said...

all those guys could train for road too though, although guy east is not an IU student and chris west graduated

Anonymous said...

time to start training and racing together now so you're ready come spring. throw graham in there too, he's probably the strongest rider out of the IUCC guys on the road right now

Anonymous said...

paul smith is right there with him, may lack the race experience that graham has, but he's got the horsepower

Anonymous said...

Can grad students race for IUCC and compete in Nationals?

Anonymous said...

I have never seen Smith race on the road but it doesn't look like he is to impressive with only a few decent results in Cat 3 and 3/4 races.

http://www.usacycling.org/results/?compid=311706&all=1

To answer @10:22 question, yes grad students can race at nationals. We saw this a couple years ago with a rider who was a grad student and and went on to race at track nationals. RJ Stuart is a graduate student I believe right now. If he and Dewart work together along with some help from the L5 riders, (Men & Women) I think it is very possible Bloomington could send a team in the spring.

Are there any other recent grads who are still around to race with IUCC? Graham and Stuart cant be the only two that are wanting to compete

Anonymous said...

Sydney Hatten who used to ride for Teter is currently a graduate student and could help the Women's team. Other then that, I am not sure if there are any other grad students who race besides Stuart and Hatten. Correct me if I'm wrong..

Anonymous said...

justin keene is still a graduate student and could race A's. and isn't ren-jai doing his 9th year of school? word is he quit cycling though

shamwow said...

justin keene couldn't hang with a BBC ride let alone race A's. R-J was mediocre at best and a total spaz in every race he entered. it's a wonder he ever got out of the cat 4's

Anonymous said...

rj and graham (and sydney on the womens side) could easily qualify on their own. without more depth the team won't stand a chance in the omnium.

Anonymous said...

"I have never seen Smith race on the road.."

Hard to talk about how good someone is without seeing them. He's a top10 CAT3 in Indiana. Some pretty decent results and some mediocre ones. Been watching him mix it up at worlds with Atwell, Shanahan, Knapp, Stuart, and Dewart. Definitely promising for IU in the future.

IU will field a road team for nationals...don't fret

Anonymous said...

IU will need some help from the Little 5 pool of talent. On the Women's side with road knowledge is Emma Caughlin, Melissa Moeller, Rachel Methered, and Emily Palmer. From the men road racers you have Paul Smith, Kevin Depasse, Tim Nixon, and Miles Johnson.

These are racers who I think have excelled in the road scene this past summer amongst their Little 500 peers and could race A's with the other riders mentioned. They may however value the IU Little 500 more than the U.S.A Nationals Championships.

observer said...

de-crash and methered would be a hazard to themselves and the pack. may score points if they don't take themselves out

Anonymous said...

Under what credibility are you speaking from? Depasse races for one of the best teams in the midwest. He along with a few of the other riders mentioned in an earlier message do hold Cat 2 licenses. As for Methered, an impressive win at the Indy Crit this summer in addition to The Bloomington Crit kind of destroys your argument. 11:49 depicts an accurate picture of top Little 5 road racers who could help make up a road team. Anyone else want to try and call out these guys?

3rd party said...

has anyone else seen the race tapes from the the last two races when both of these riders crash by themselves?

depasse is on the roster for NUVO but lacks any impressive results. holding a cat 2 license doesn't mean anything. chris west and ryan kiel both hold cat 2 licenses. and winning a cat 4 women's crit? that makes you ready to compete against kaitlin antonneau and sinead miller, right?

Anonymous said...

The thing about collegiate is that you have to find people who will care more about that than Little 5. You may have that with Stuart, Dewart and Hatten but the others have other obligations.

Anonymous said...

That has always been clear. The riders mentioned above might have the most success on the road, but who knows about their commitment to Little 5. I doubt any of the cutters will want to participate in the road to nationals, Smith might. IU may need to look to other riders like John Becker, Austin V, or maybe a couple others to step up to the plate and fill in the shoes of the remaining A team riders.

Anonymous said...

Yeah but who of the women is going to step up and fill shoes? They are not going to qualify without both sides putting in the work.

Anonymous said...

Paul Smith took the W for the scratch race...he is going to pull away from the field at lap 180 and pull a 20 lap Stuart.

Anonymous said...

Paul just shut up and let your legs do the talking. From what it sounds like, you did that tonight..congrats but you don't need to go on BVN directly after to self promote. Learn the respect element of cycling culture..you're the IUCC president for christs sake. You don't see Kanpp or Atwell getting on here and posting about themselves so lets tone it down a notch. Congrats again on your result. People will be impressed, you are a strong rider.

Anonymous said...

"Yeah but who of the women is going to step up and fill shoes? " @2:04

I think Emma Caughlin,Melissa Moeller and Emily Palmer are ideal riders to join Sydney Hatten and a boys team. Again, it is up to these 3 little 5 riders how much they value their road career vs. there time on the cinders but I think they could hold their own. Caughlin and Moeller attended numerous 1/2/3 races this summer and were a factor in all their races. Emily Palmer has road experience and has been riding for some time now. Sydney won Bloomington Crit, Eagle creek and a couple others. I really hope these ladies come together, that would be HUGE for the Bloomington community and these riders if they qualified and IU sent a full road team.

I was too busy running strava to self promote. If you want to talk to/about me just email me. Congrats to Depasse on the points race win. It was a fun night on the track.

Also, there has been a lot of talk about IUCC on here. If you really have something to offer Email me at smith431@indiana.edu We are working on getting a team together for nationals and I would love to see IU back on top for cycling in the Midwest

Anonymous said...

I guess nats are out now that regionals are same weekend of little 5?

Anonymous said...

Just because regionals are on the same weekend, doesn't mean it's impossible. It just means the men/women have to be serious about getting points early. The last time the team went to nats (with Eric Young) regionals was L5 weekend as well. It has been that way for years.

With the group of A riders that has come together for nationals I would highly doubt if they let this stop them.

Graham Dewart said...

No, this will not stop us. Our plan is to be in Odgen Utah May 2-5 with both a men and women's A team. This conflicting date is fine..we'll take on the challenge. So far, "A" riders who have began to organize into a squad are Sydney Hatten, Emma Caughlin, Emily Palmer, Melissa Moeller. On the Mens team you have Rj Stuart, Austin Venhuizen, John Becker, Paul Smith and myself.

This year, IUCC is trying to plan long term and narrow a potential group of A racers who have the desire to race the collegiate calendar and compete for the 4 person men and 4 person womens Nationals team.

What the goal is aside from nationals is to gather a group of talented riders who recognize something larger then Little 500 and see the Bloomington community as a team. By narrowing a focused group of riders who are dedicated to racing the collegiate calendar, a team feeling will be promoted through group rides and our overall goal to represent IU in the 2013 Collegiate National Road Championships in Odgen Utah.

Let us know if you want to join the movement and see the bigger picture of IU cycling. If you wish to dedicate your time more to Little 500, all the power to you. I am clearly biased.

-Graham Dewart

Anonymous said...

So Paul, austin, and Becker will NOT be riding in little 5 then?

Paul Smith said...

I can speak for myself, Austin, and Becker when I say that we fully intend on racing Little 5, but we are also willing to miss Spring Series events in order to qualify for nationals.

I wish the L5 schedule was more conducive to cyclists who would like to participate in both. However, I think we have a chance to send a team to nationals and I plan on pursuing that opportunity.

-Paul

Anonymous said...

ITT's is on a wednesday so we can still see those men and woman make a showing to compare against the rest of the Little 5 community. Thats unfortunate if you have to miss the rest of spring series, but I applaud the "A" squads for making that sacrifice to help better the bloomington cycling community and try to push IU back as a top cycling school in the midwest!

John Becker said...

The goal is to create a dominant IU Cycling team that gets invited to nationals so those involved in the Little 500 can still race and not worry about regionals.

In order to do so we will have to miss out on some aspects of the Little 500, such as the spring series and general time on the track. When compared to traveling to Utah and racing against the best the nation has to offer, that is a sacrifice worth making.

We can't control the fact that Marian is extremely well funded and basically built to win nationals, obviously that is out of our control. But they are beatable. IU has the legs to do it, we just need the mindset.

Regardless of the types of things said on this blog, we know we can do it. We are all fully prepared to make the sacrifices to do so. The Little 500 being on the same day as regionals is just another obstacle that we have to deal with, but that is months away.

-Becker

Anonymous said...

IU won the MWCCC omnium (and beat Marian) in 2008, it's definitely do-able

Anonymous said...

F*&K Yeah!

Tom said...

Marian had a really weak team in 2008, even at Road Nats in Colorado. IU finished 8th in the team Omnium even though we got no points in the Men's RR. Marian finished 23rd.

For I.U. the men scored 72 points in the Omnium, the women scored 111. In fairness to the guys, the RR started in a snow storm and course was shorten to finish the race quicker. The part of the course was the place where I.U. had determined was the best place to make their move when evaluating the course the day before. RenJay was the only I.U. rider to finish the RR.

Anonymous said...

I message I am getting is yes it we make it to regionals those mentioned above will NOT be racing L5 instead they will be doing the regional stuff. Is this correct?

Anonymous said...

No. Qualify for nationals BEFORE regionals. Skip regionals, race little 500 and nationals. If non little 5 rider, race regionals while other IU teammates can't.

Austin V said...

To quote Paul Smith: "I can speak for myself, Austin, and Becker when I say that we fully intend on racing Little 5, but we are also willing to miss Spring Series events in order to qualify for nationals."

This fully reflects the attitudes of all of us who are still eligible to ride in Little 5. The idea is that we bolster our chances of qualifying a team for nationals by amassing points prior to Little 5. Because neither RJ nor Graham are eligible to race, they'll be able to race at regionals while the remainder of us will do the Little 5. Missing some Spring Series events is not tantamount to missing the race.

- Austin

Tom said...

"October 1, 2012 4:45 PM"

Not necessarily, but people need to start planng now, and not at Team Pursuit in the Spring.

Little 5 is not a barrier to doing well at Regionals it is actually a benefit. You need to race solid all year and not get drunk the night of Little 500. Many teams in the past have finished the Little 5 and traveled that night to the 2nd day of Regionals. Ideally regionals would be in Illinois or Indiana and not at Lindenwood.

Anonymous said...

tom also forgot to mention that regionals that year were the week after little 5

Anonymous said...

Again, it's not the end of the world that regionals are the same week as Little 5, yes it makes it more imperative to do the early races, but I think the riders that have spoken above, and the ones listed by Graham have made it clear that they are focused on this. If anything the Bloomington community should be supporting this group, rather than doubting them.

observer said...

agreed, these guys have gotten organized and committed to getting to nationals. good for them!

Anonymous said...

here's the leadout

Anonymous said...

having the two strongest guys (rj graham) able to race both days of regionals should make a big difference. those two could score major points if they do both days

Anonymous said...

Who the hell said RJ and Graham are the strongest people? Sorry, as an IU alum I want to see them do well, but who said they will get any results at all? Those two...well to put it bluntly...suck. They are on elite amateur teams and they aren't ready for the big leagues.

Eric

Graham Dewart said...

"Who the hell said RJ and Graham are the strongest people?"

Someone Anonymous..which gives it no credibility. I'm not sure who posted that but I can tell you thats not my mindset, nor is it how our team should work. I doubt Eric (Young?) posted the reply but if he did, thanks for the advice.

Since my last message, Turner Duncan upgraded to an A license and has made it clear he wants to participate and help get results for Nationals. How cool would it be if IU sent a team to race at nationals? Not just in the sense that we would be racing with the best in the country, but how we got there. It's only October 2nd and planning is underway. Planning not through the schools athletic department, not through scholarships, not through some IU cycling director, but by the students. I think there is something really special about that and the quality of the story we are trying to write between here and May 2nd. I think the magic lies within the organization of a TEAM of riders and HOW we get there. Not in individuals like comment @10:00AM suggests.

Organization and motivation are a key element to succeeding and I ask respected riders in the community and the racers who have raced at Nationals, what can we do to further our goal? What did people like Ren Jay, Knapp, Sherrer, Young, Loebig, Kovac etc. do on and off the bike to create a team to be able to compete for the omnium? How did you deal with contraints with Little 5, limited funding, lack of administration, etc?

RJ said...

Graham's hit on some good points. Not only is it much easier to qualify when you have a cohesive team, but it's a lot more fun that way too. I'm very glad to see this group of riders getting together and getting organized to work towards this goal. Both of my trips to Nats were an absolute blast and the seasons leading up to Nats were awesome as well. I'm no expert by any means, but I'd be willing to help you guys in any way I can. You know where to find me!

RJ

Geraint Parry said...

I approve of the recent set of posts on here, it shows a great attitude to the Nationals Challenge. With even a couple of weekly Top10-20 points scorers then it's plenty possible to qualify for Nats. I don't know those other guys but I know RJ and Graham are plenty capable of getting big results. The key will be on the Womens side where a top 10 finish is relatively easy and well within the talent of those ladies listed above.
To be honest it's unrealistic to ask even non-L5 riders to sacrifice L5 day in Bloomington (it is the best day of the year, right?) but Nats qualification can be achieved without that.
It seems the planning is well underway and then it's all about the legs! Get on it!
