WWCX

From Adam Rodkey:

It looks like it will rain most of the day today. The CX group will likely not be riding at Karst tonight. I know, I know, we're supposed to revel in the wet and mud, but we don't want to damage the park grounds until necessary!

Autumn Series

Looks as though Riders Council have come up with a greatly improved Fall Series that kicks off with Tuesday Night at the Track this evening (#L5TNRS).
 Details here

Looking foward to hearing about how the events proceed. I see that the #L5TNRS is categorised by age which must be a kick in the teeth for the old boys of the track, Eric and Brant! I also notice that IUSF shows some class and don't give the ladies ages.... Start list for Tuesday 25th

My name is Deborah Osteen and I am currently conducting a thesis research study for the sport psychology masters program at John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill, California, and I am in GREAT need of volunteers to participate in my study! The entire study is done online, so it does not matter where you reside, just as long as you have access to the internet.

The study will require 5 - 30 minutes per week and takes place over 4 weeks, starting October 1st, 2012.

MMSF TT #9 Results 09.11.2012

The final TT of the year had just 9 riders come out for the challenge, with most riders opting to ride Merckx-style.  To no surprise, Jonathan Atwell took the top spot with a 21.17 while strong-man Ryan Shanahan set a new season-best Merckx time with a 22.54.  Mandy Brothers was the lone female rider of the night, completing the course in 28.11 Merckx style.  Just because the "official" TT's are over this year doesn't mean you can't still go out and time yourself for fun or for a workout.  Times are on BVN, so you can see where you stack up - and also try to beat your own best time!  Thanks to Sarah Sanders for timing tonight and to all others who have timed this year for making it possible.  And of course, thanks to the riders for coming out, hopefully we'll see you again next year!  Full results below:

Full Results:

Place Name Time MPH Category
1 Jonathan Atwell 21.17 28.19 TT
2 Ryan Shanahan 22.54 26.20 Merckx
3 Erik Paavola 23.48 25.21 TT
4 Shane Slaven 25.18 23.72 Merckx
5 Spencer Brauchla 25.51 23.21 Merckx
6 Jacob Miller 25.58 23.11 Merckx
7 Matt Ellenwood 26.13 22.89 Merckx
8 Jimmy Rosati 26.20 22.78 Merckx
9 Mandy Brothers 28.11 21.29 Merckx

WWCX

From Adam Rodkey:

WWCX will be meeting at Karst again this week 6:30-7pm. We flagged and painted the course, but it has been mowed since then, so all flags may not still be standing. If needed we can put out more and/or make sure everyone knows the course.

 See you there!

Stolen Bike

Fellow Bloomington Cyclists,

Would you please keep your eyes open for a stolen 2009 58cm Specialized Roubaix Pro?  It was stolen today (9/11) between 7:45AM and 2:45PM.  The bike was locked (cable and locking rack) to the roof rack of my car in the SRSC parking lot. The bike has several identifying features, some of which include; nokon cables, black box bottom bracket, Fulcrum Racing 3 wheels and several other identifying characteristics.  The frame is a black carbon weave with red decals. An image of a like frame is included below. A report is on file with IUPD so if you see this bike please call them and contact me at csarvin@indiana.edu

 Thanks, Chris

IUDM Torch Ride

On Saturday, September 22nd, IUDM will be hosting its 7th annual Torch Ride, a cycling event, from Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis to Bloomington. Each year this event is a centerpiece of the IUDM experience, serving as a ride in honor of Ashley Crouse, an IUDM Vice President who passed away in a car accident on campus in 2005. Current IUDM VP Finance Eric Anderson will lead the pack of cyclists from Riley Hospital to Bloomington, while carrying a torch that will ultimately be placed at the marathon as a reminder of Ashley's legacy and dedication to IU Dance Marathon and the children at Riley. The ride itself will be at a leisurely, social pace, but we ask that anyone who joins the ride be comfortable riding in packs.

If you're not familiar with IUDM, the organization works year-round to raise funds and awareness for Riley Hospital for Children. Since it began, the IU Dance Marathon has raised almost $12 million for Riley Hospital for Children, which built and continues to support the Ryan White Infectious Disease Center. If you click the link below, you can learn more about IUDM and the Center it has built. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReLrlwR5WH4

We will be leaving Bloomington at 8:00am and will be providing transportation for riders and their bikes up to Indianapolis for the start of the ride at 10:00am. We will be using this route to make our way back down to Bloomington: http://classic.mapmyride.com/route/us/in/indianapolis/143131344391685772

The cost for participation will be $20, or $25 which includes lunch. Riders can register by signing up online at: http://www.helpmakemiracles.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donordrive.event&eventID=1281

Help make a difference today and gather your friends and teammates to join in on this amazing event! For more information please visit www.iudm.org or email Eric at eric.bradley.anderson@gmail.com with any questions!"

Summer days...

So it's time for Cyclocross to occupy average cyclists all over the world (while the Pros still race road) so it's a good time to look back over the summer racing. What were the highlights of Bloomington-based racing? The lack of PROs in town means do you look to the top-class amateurs (Atwell, Knapp, Dewart) or the winning lower Cat riders (Gartner as Cat3 crit champ)? Was the Bloomington Crit the best day of racing? Were there great performances off of the road or maybe an epic effort in R.A.I.N or Decycles? Let us know your highlight but hey, try to keep it clean.

WWCX Moving to Karst This Week

From Adam Rodkey:

We will be  riding the WWCX at Karst Farm Park  tomorrow (9/5). After a home game the tailgate field becomes a mine filed of broken glass, plus we have the Bloomingcross course mostly laid out and it needs ridden.

The course at Karst is (mostly) marked with paint, but we'll get started 6:30-7:00pm and make sure everyone knows the course, then get in some workout.

Upcoming Dates... Fall 2012

Just a few advance notices regarding Little 500 and other cycling dates.  First of all, the 9th and final MMSF TT will be coming up next week (Tuesday, September 11th), so if you'd like to take on the course "officially" one last time, plan on being there at 7pm.  Unfortunately, this will conflict with the IUSF Callout Meeting for Little 5.  That will be held also next Tuesday the 11th at 8pm in BU223, so interested riders should plan on being there.  A new, exciting series of events from IUSF is also coming this fall.  For the first time there will be a Fall Tuesday Night Race Series hosted by IUSF at Bill Armstrong Stadium.  This year the series will feature three nights of racing - details to come on that.  The races will be bi-weekly starting Tuesday, September 25th and will feature a mix of different track (velodrome)-style racing.  Also keep an eye out for the Fall Exchange Clinic for those teams looking to teach rookies exchanges early or brush up on exchanges for vets.  The full Fall Calendar for IUSF can be found here.  Just a reminder, the IUSF Group Rides will be going on all fall at 4:30pm from the Wilcox House - multiple routes are available and turnouts have been awesome so far!

Lastly, Road Wednesday Worlds will continue through the end of this month, with the 446 Loop on  Wednesday, September 26th closing out the WW for the season.  Looking ahead there is PLENTY of racing left this year for those willing to get a little muddy in cyclocross racing.  Adam Rodkey and Fred Rose have already been out scouting the course for BloomingCross so for those who are interested - plan on a great race this fall right here in town!  Wednesday CX Worlds is a great place to learn and hone your skills and it's a great workout in less than an hour.

Whether it's on or off the road, I hope to see you all out riding!
