Rider Council '011

The 2011 Little 500 season starts now with decision to name Riders Council at the end of the Spring Semester. The lucky riders are-

Eric Anderson (Beta), Ren-jay Shei (BKB), Chris West (PDT), Zach Lusk (Cutters), Andrew Morrow (Sigma Chi), David Ellis (FIJI), Jordan Bailey (BKB), James Coudright (DTD)

Sonja Arnesen (Gamma Phi), Chelsea Merta (Mezcla), CvK (Teter), Amy Dickman (Theta), Kelsey Kent (DG), Katie Sauter (KKG), Lauren Possley (Phi Mu), Melinda Balchan (AGD)

Most of the big teams are represented (No Psi Phi) as usual. BKB have two representatives but as Ren-jay isn't eligible to ride anymore there's no competitive advantage there.

Let's hope they choose a better color than that questionable light blue for their all important RC jackets this year!

You have better check your source, the email I saw has nine members for each not eight.

Is Lauren Possley any relation to Dan "I mad the hall of fame and Joel McKay didn't" Possley and Mike "Clubfoot" Possley?

Apologies I missed out Brian Holthouse (ggc) and Abigail Legg (wing-it). Tom there's no need to be so passive aggressive.

GP - thanks for sharing. Congrats to the new RC. Tom...sad, just sad.

Lauren is a cousin to the Phi Delt clan.

It was a rhetorical question, Tom.

If Ren Jay is not eligible to ride, how can he be on RC? According to the rules on page 22 of the 2010 maunal, he upgraded and then used his 1 year of eligibility. I don't know how many applied for men's RC, but if someone did get bumped, that seems pretty unfair.

It will be nice that Ren Jay will actually have time to devote to teams and rc stuff in the spring when all other rc members have to be focused on their individual training and teams.

"The Riders Council members are selected on the basis of their commitment to the improvement of the Little 500. Members serve to teach and inspire new Little 500 riders and act as a liaison between IUSF and the Little 500 community. Working to spread the word of the Little 500 on the Indiana University Bloomington campus and beyond, members of the Riders Council are leaders in the Little 500 community, on the track, the road, and elsewhere."

Our jackets were badass.... No regrets there.

Off topic, however I noticed no one said anything about the magic Patch and Hank peak for race day. Thought some might seem to disagree I think the two of them did more than expected. It seemed to me that they set up both of the wins for the Cutters, they rode hard fast laps, even attacking when it is necessary. Aganist a field that was suppose to be much better than them. I guess as per usual Cutters show up on race day.

Lots of teams/people showed up on race day that no one thought would, the idea of peaking isn't a new concept.

similarly. although both had incredible race days, how many laps did they ride? immediately following the race I had an impression that they both did come out of the woodwork, but after watching the race tape i saw that at lap 170 it was only lap 14 for hank. maybe it was 16, either way not hard to ride fast when you are fresh. still, they ride well and do what they are supposed to do.

It is hard to do many laps when you have a horse eating all the laps for your team. Like you said, they rode well and did what they were suppose to do.
