Forest TT- 5/18/20

It was a dank cool evening at MMSF TT where there was a throw back attitude to the proceedings as many of the local fast guys chose to forego any aero gear and ride it 'Merckx'-style (m)! Erik Hamilton gained some much needed confidence after a tough Joe Martin SR with a rapid 22.06 that included maybe 20seconds of extra pavement in a botched turnaround. Jon Atwell was second with usual winner Ryan Shanahan unable to hide behind the tri-bars and finished further down the standings than usual! Sarah Sanders was the top lady with 25m57s and there was another encouraging turnout of 24 riders. This series is going from strength to strength. Next TT is June 1st and apologies for any name spelling mistakes!

Wes Harris should get a * next his (m) distinction for being on a steel bike w/out STI.

True, all Merckxs are not created equal! See Axel vs Eddy or Wes's wheels vs Brett's front 404 for evidence of that!

Holy crap Erik!! It's humbling enough anytime you're beat in a TT, but when you're SMASHED by someone riding Merkcx style it's even worse.

I want to see what you can do on that course w/ an aero setup!!

The really sad part is that my best time out there was on a bike very similar 25+ years ago was at least 3:30 faster

To the above poster: I was here 25 years ago and _nobody_ was doing the Forest TT in 18:30. So I guess the really sad part is that no one ever taught you to tell time.

Eric's ave was 27.1. Sick fast with no aero gear on that course. Great job.

Folks, I think this series is just starting to heat up, and I think that doing it on road bikes might be the 'new white bar tape' of 2010.

@Adam: No "*". According to Slowtwitch, barring aero shapes, skinny steel tubes would be less drag than fat OS tubes anyway. Down tubies aren't a big to do either.

Me. I got my work cut out for me here now. I know Ryan will come raging back with a blistering road bike time, Erik is just starting to hit his stride, and my own PR of 22:50 on a road bike some years back isn't looking too impressive these days.

This will be a great Summer for personal challenges!!!

No you can't do math. my best time was 23:04. If you had taken the time to read what I said was that my time (Wes) was 3:30 slower that 25 years ago

the last fragment of that statement should read (was 3:30 slower than 25 years ago)

It makes so much more sense when you don't post your time under "Anonymous".

Okay for 10 miles about how much faster would you estimate is a time trial bike all hooked up than a road bike with time trial bars and training wheels? 10 seconds? 20?

Although yesterday was a little slower than 2 weeks ago (Rodkey/Sanders/Harris/Hetzel are good measures for that), I'd say any sort of aero makes a big difference. Ryan S was over 2mins slower on his road vs TT bike. Kaleb was approx 1m30s slower when he removed this tribars.

Depending upon the quality of the position on the bike its safe to say that full TT "kit" is worth between 1 and 2 plus minutes on that course.

I am talking a full TT kit vs a road bike with TT bars. I realize it's about 2 minutes from straight road to Full TT. I'm guessing 10-30 seconds?
