The ITT men to beat

Prepared by the boffins within the Beta machine (Eric Anderson). Interesting reading, 8.55 is the time to be at the track today. Don't forget Chris West, broken wrist last year prevented an ITT ride but this year back and presumably eligible to contribute toward the White jersey?
For my $$ it's between Sharp and Stuart, with the DTD man having the slight edge.

West can't score points. He is "unassociated"

Anonymous said...

He sure won't be riding in support of Delts ha

Even though Stuart won tonight, Phi Delt's is clearly the strongest team out there, looking forward to how Phi Delt, Cutters, and Delts dual it out in MnO this saturday!

U are clearly clueless, jackwagon

Objective observation of Delts – they don’t ride together, they don’t train together, and presumably they don’t hang out together. This is a recipe for disaster come race day. If they are dealt any adversity in the race, their team will shatter. Not to mention, the coaching staff over there is not always the most cohesive of groups. They have a track record of race day melt downs. Too bad Mr. Stuart won’t have his pro training partners by his side on race day. My prediction – April 21st will be a long day for the men do Delta Tau Delta.

What an Idiot, Delts are as tight knit as any team most of them live together. I love posting that are so innacurate it makes you smile. Keep talk smack. Love it. That being said Sigma Chi will win!

Todd said...

8:06 - I would say that Sigma Chi won't be on the lead lap because their 3rd and especially 4th rider will cost them. However, I think we will see a very passive race this year unlike the last two years. That being said, I'd expect them and a lot of teams on the lead lap at 180.

Sharp, Stuart and Morrow have ITT times that say they can separate from the field near the end, but I'd put Morrow behind both Stuart and Sharp.

Anonymous said...

Tight knit my ass. They hate each other. And how about their 3rd and 4th riders? Todd, your thoughts on if they can give RJ enough support.

Anonymous said...

you clearly have no idea how team dynamics work. Would have you mind your team. Delts will do what delts are destined to do.

Anonymous said...

Who was that Smith kid in 4th? He had on a Delts kit last night.

Anonymous said...

I would say the most alarming thing is CSF, Man!!!! what a drop off. If you fall off the grid that bad from 1 to 4 lap, whats gonna happen in the race? Interesting.

There are clearly 'top riders' apart from the rest of the field, but times suggest greater depth and support all around the track!

Fast track and good times last night; Saturday should be great as well!

Top 5 of RJ, Sharp, Morrow, Smith, and Depasse. Seems about what most people predicted minus Smith showing up out of no where.

Todd said...

8:37 - Judging from ITTs and the last two years, I'd say they have the horsepower and the speed to be the favorite. However, and this is just from reading into posts on here, the team does seem to be disjointed a bit. The fact that someone posted that RJ had nothing to do with his team's decision to protest West says a lot if it is true.

This type of thing can wreck a team on race day.

nottodd said...

West is inelgible this year. will ride for delts next year.

Anonymous said...

RJ had nothing to do with the protest...I'd look to blame some of his jealous teammates.

Anonymous said...

Women's race will be super exciting this year. Should be an intense fight between a small group of teams: Teter (still favored with 3 in the top 10), Wing-It, Theta. Metherd's stepping up to get top ten, brought them into contention. Doesn't look like DG will have the power to compete, with just two in the top 20.

Anonymous said...

Why are the mens series points so high? It starts at 14th for the first guy? The womens start with 1. PDT laid down a marker last night and Teter did what we expected. Wing it and Cutters right behind. Then RJ and Kath being big dogs on not as deep teams. I'd say we have a 3 team race for both races and if its slow a 5 team race.

What happened to some of the Cutters? Schroeder is typically fast yet he was behind their 6th guy. Depasse's little brother is fast and he got beat by one of the girls. Their last rider is really behind. Harbison raced for them last year and he was way behind too.

They must be having a bad week.

Anonymous said...

Jeez enough already! Get over it, the fact of the matter is you cant ride 5 years. Get over it, we all can count NO ONE RIDES 5 YEARS PERIOD. NO ONE EVER HAS PERIOD. Everyone, and not just delts, can count. The landscape of little 5 would be a cluster if we started allowing riders a 5 year run. And not only dtd involved in the west decision. The RIGHT decision. Stop pouting.

Anonymous said...

Cross Country Scoring would give it to Sigma Chi, PTD,Beta, Delts, BKB, Cutters in that order.

For the race.
I go
Beta if they stay hard on the front.
Delts
PTD, then Cutters, Sigma Chi, and BKB

Anonymous said...

How can you pick Beta? They don't have a sprinter or the strength to get a lap up on the field. I can't see them winning.

Anonymous said...

@9:46

You may want to check your facts. There have been multiple riders in the past that have been granted a 5th year of eligibility due to extenuating circumstances. They protested, and won, just like West did. You should really do your homework before you go on a rant.

Anonymous said...

Can you name a few 10:02?

Anonymous said...

Name 1?

Anonymous said...

Name half of one?

Anonymous said...

Bill Snapp for starters.

another one is now married to a former race winner and ITT record holder.

Do your homework...

Anyone care to chime in?

Anonymous said...

I haven't ridden for 5 years and they are still talking about me on here.

PDT has to get over it. Just pissed cause they went epic legendary blowing the race last year. Too bad, wu tang, cowboy the fuck up and ride. You are etching your name is L5 lore as the biggest whining bitches in history. Fact of the matter is thats the rule.

Focusing on what you don't have takes away from what you do have, kills your team. Haven't you seen Hoosiers?

200 Laps, 10 Exchanges, Turn Left and SHUT UP!

THE END.

Anonymous said...

Maybe their circumstances were different. West just wanted to ride a 5th year with no real good reason. Sorry that he got hurt last year, but that isn't a valid excuse to violate the rules. He protested, that's fair. Someone protested his protest, also fair.
In the end West lost by following IUSF procedure. If you have an issue with that take it up with Bailey. (Were there really no better canidates for race director??)

Anonymous said...

I really doubt PDT is bitching. Placed 3 guys in the top 15 last night and the guys fighting for the fourth spot all within shooting range of top 25. I'd say they are ok without West.

Anonymous said...

I "raced" 5 years. I didn't do quals and was on crutches during the race but was wearing my jersey in the pit and walked around the track for the picture and was on the final 4 card my freshman year. So there are good exceptions to the rule as their was no question I was not able to compete.

In all fairness, a lot of the younger guys who went early were subjected to that killer headwind. If you were at the track around 4 or 5 you should have noticed them hitting a wall around turn 2. Times were WAY slower early.

Anonymous said...

Agree with the head wind, Beta and DTD (Will and Phil)ran 224 into a head wind that impressed me as much as the 220s with no wind. Perfect night at the end. And I agree PDT is just fine. THEY ARE THE RACE FAVORITE. BETA, CUTTERS, DTD, and SIGMA CHI in that order. Book it Dan-O

Anonymous said...

Will and Phil did not have a head wind. They didn't go until power hour where the wind was almost a non factor. The wind was about 16mph from 4 to 7 and then was about 6-7mph for the rest of the night. Anybody going after 8 was not affected by the wind, certainly not 4 seconds.

As for race order there is no way Beta will win. For the first 180 laps all you have to do is stay on the lead lap and then all it comes down to is how fast is your best guy and how fresh is he. Will, who is a rookie this year and Beta's fast ITT, was 7th. So no way is he going to out sprint the likes of Stuart, Morrow, and Sharp. PDT is favorite due to depth but they are going to have to either gain a lap on the field or drill it off the front the whole time to make Stuart stay on the bike for long sets to tire him out to have a shot in the sprint in the end. PDT is the deepest, Delts has a super star, and Cutters have the the bike IQ and experience. They battle it out

Anonymous said...

Stuart. Thats all them Delt boys need. Cant wait for their post race rager right behind the track. Anyone know how to get into to that party?

Anonymous said...

Its not the strongest ITT rider who wins...ever here of drafting and then coming around at the end. Tactics > Strength

Anonymous said...

CSF just showed that they can absolutely not compete with the big boys when it comes to more than 1 lap plus an exchange... Hope they are prepared to be embarrassed on race day. Would be lucky for a top 15 finish

Anonymous said...

@10:50

That's true in a lot of cases but its not like Stuart has bad tactics, he is a very successful cat 1/2 rider. I think his tactics are just fine

ITT's is over. Lets focus on MnO, any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

How about Nick Torrence for Sig Ep? I heard he was training with Cutters at the beginning of the year - strong rookie showing from both riders.

Anonymous said...

back to one of the first posts,

How is phi delt clearly strongest?
3 in top 15 for PDT vs 4 in top 25 for both Beta and Cutters, where PDT's fourth is 33rd.

Anonymous said...

An interesting stat is that all of Beta's riders have been top 10 ITT's in their L5 careers.

No other team has that going for them.

Regardless of the results last night you aren't going to be able to accurately predict a race winner.

Keep watching in the events to come. I think the real winners will be predicted in MnO and obviously strongest team in Team Pursuit. MnO will be a more accurate prediction because the field seems to be pretty well distributed between the top 5 teams. The event will allow the sprinters to show what they've got.

This year is a total crap shoot.

Anonymous said...

maybe if all the Delts bros sleep in RJ's oxygen tent they'll have better team chemistry

Anonymous said...

Delts for the repeat in MNO?
Beta and PDT are the only teams with a chance against them.

Anonymous said...

Try repeat in Team Pursuit

Anonymous said...

oops that's what I meant at 12:52
Hell RJ could win MNO as well, he has a solid sprint

Anonymous said...

I think this will be the year where the entire race will be dicated from the back stretch, should make for some interesting tactical moves. Cutters and Delt working together? Say it ain't so Joe?

Anonymous said...

Can we talk more about this altitude tent that RJ is supposedly using? Any truth to it?

@12:49 care to elaborate?

Anonymous said...

Too funny!! The race this year will come down to coaching with so many teams right there? I think based on that that Cutters clearly have the edge, followed by Grant an Beta, PDT, Sigma Chi, Delts, then BKB.

Anonymous said...

Sets up nicely for Cutters+Delts vs. Beta+BKB+PDT

Anonymous said...

There is no working together in Little 500. It's a waste of time thinking about it.

Anonymous said...

FYI to earlier posts- no PDT riders or alum are posting about west or Delts on here. Whats done is done. Ready for the race now

Anonymous said...

The hypoxic tent = Truth

wish i had one!

Todd said...

Tents are a waste of money. To gain a significant benefit, you have to stay in it every moment other than training.

It's pure marketing hoohah.

Anonymous said...

Placebo effect can do wonders...the only reason rj won last night is because he has worked harder than everyone else in the field the past few years

Todd said...

3:59 - "only" is a strong word. He has worked hard and dedicated himself, but that is not the only reason and I would contend that others have worked as hard. Last night was his night and he put it together when it counted. However, he said it himself in the IDS, April 21 is all that really matters.

Also - 11:30 - excellent analysis. Somebody gets it.

What's the golden magic shower whatever award?

And Paul Smith is a good kid and fun to hang out with. He's a triathlete and he rode for Wright Cycling last year, so he's not riding in the race this year.

Golden Cinder Shower Award!
There is a tradition to unofficially give said award to the first Men's racer(s) who are beaten by a girl at Series Events.

How did the practice starts go?

Anonymous said...

CSF is an embarrassment they can't even hang a wheel for a 1/4 lap in the pack. Why would you bother to only train quals when you have no chance of finishing in the top 25.

That excel spreadsheet doesn't take into account that several teams didn't have their top four run ITT's or that some young teams had all of their riders in early times with 16+ mph head winds while most veteran teams had later runs when there was NO wind. Like BKB had nearly every single rider after 7pm.

Anonymous said...

Why was the track so empty today? Only a few team along the front stretch. Teams must be resting for MNO.

Go PDT!

Anonymous said...

I think you meant go home PDT! You can drink your sorrows away after you see how much stronger other teams are in Team Pursuit and the Race.

nottodd said...

Paul Smith is not a triathlete. He competes in biathlon.

Paul said...

Nottodd- Triathlons and duathlons. Biathlons are usually cross country skiing and rifle shooting.

Anonymous said...

lol Biathlon

IU calls it a Biathlon or at least they used to. Run bike run. Duathlon is proper.
