results..

Is Bloomington getting blase about the PROs washing around town these days? Difficult for me to judge...but Mike Sherer and Eric Young did some pretty good work over on the East Coast last weekend at the Wilmington GP. Three top tens (including in a 100+mile RR....not just Critters obviously) with 7th and 8th in a NRC overall omnium is something we haven't seen from Bloomington residents in a long while. It's fun to read about the ex-roomies taking it to the next level on the US stage.

Thank you for your comment. I am glad someone is reading my posts! BTW- they are on Wednesdays, not Thursdays. Perhaps we'll get to see you there, if you're a cyclist.

Minor league is a decent approx if the ATOC is the major leagues. This race/ riders prolly make it AA 'ball.

Show some love folks.

+1 on what Fred said. It seems to me that it doesn't matter how good the news gets on here, there are always a couple jerk-offs lurking to slam it. They may not be in the ATOC, but it beats your scrawny ass. No love, and no respect either. Their results are off the hook - and it's inspiring to say the least.

I don't think anyone was talking trash, I wrote the original
post asking what It was comparable to, I simply
don't understand the cycling ranks. Good work guys, beats
a desk job.

Yup not talking trash at all, just putting the races in context. If ATOC/Giro are the Majors, Nature Valley/ Tro Bro Leon/Tour of Taiwan are AAA then Wilmington is AA. Just saying..
However Scholars Inn Bloomington Cycling Festival is elevated beyond its supposed status and is THE event to win!

the sad thing is that there are hundreds of major league baseball players that make 6 or 7 figures and prolly thousands of minor league baseball players that earn a living.....and those guys except for the pitchers and catchers just stand around half the day, swing a bat and run 100m once per hour, chew tobacco, sit on a bench the rest of the time, etc. Then there are these US Pro cyclists who light themselves on fire day after day, year after year for free bikes and beer money. Oh, and then there's golf, where even the lowest level Pro-Am prolly has a bigger purse than the entire NRC series...
...sigh.

Re: Golf - the avg. earnings on the Nationwide Tour (probably equivelent to AAA) is $33 - $37k. Those guys aren't banking it by any means and live a similar lifestyle (sleeping in cars, packing up from tournament and driving through the night to the next, etc.). Sure they get some free equipment, but most are paying their way for everything and no team support. They might have a few individual sponsors (i.e. mom and dad or the hometown rich guy hoping they make it on Tour), but for the most part they pay their on way.

I agree they aren't risking their lives diving into corners at 40mph, but your avg. touring pro is certainly not living the big life.

Now...congrats to all these fools tearing it up! I love following these results and seeing "local" boys doing what they love and doing it well. Keep it up!

If you were trying to talk trash, you're an idiot. With my "desk job" now, my involvement in cycling is down to weeknight group rides and the weekend cat 3 crits. In a heart beat I would give up his higher paying desk job to race with a Kelley Benefits or Bissell team.

Desk Jobs Suck - my knees hurt everyday stuck in a chair for 8 hours
