Womens Race

Cool to see this on online already. The interesting stuff starts around 40minutes. Last couple laps are pretty exciting. Teter should be totally pissed that the yellow flaggers didn't move out that lapped rider on the final lap. Yes Lisa didn't assert herself when she got back into the lead group but having to go the long way around a lapped rider on the final lap is ridiculous (and KKG had to go into the gutter). Looked never in doubt for Kayce. Next year someone teach her to take her hands off the handlebars! Great to see the celebrations especially the unique event of winning with their rookie team riding as well.....I also think I saw Chris Chartier picking chicks up! Yeah Little 5!!!

Geraint the responsibility of moving the riders is the Judges not the safety personnel

Can someone please put the men's race up!

this video doesn't show the theta crash

Most impressive race day goes to DG for a sweet sprint and to Collins. All rookies placing in top ten is just awesome. Excited to see if that program will blossom into something

that lapped team screwed the sprint. i'd be pissed if i was kappa teter or wing it.

Watch it again with open eyes.

Teter was sitting way too far back and couldn't react to the move from Theta/DG. A good gap was opened up on the other teams before the lapped rider even and into play.

theta would've had a better chance if they hadn't have had to burn up kathleen trying to catch back up after that crash. tough luck for them, but DG was strong and smart

Anonymous said...

Here is where everyone was sitting with one lap to go

Anonymous said...

Theta had no sprinter. Kath was the strongest rider but she has no pop. There is no sudden acceleration for her. I would have liked to see her try to do what RJ did and solo in

Anonymous said...

not true, kath has pop, she was just burned up from having to catch back on after methered crashed. watch her MNO and anything from last year, she can accelerate as well as anyone

Anonymous said...

Who are the favorites for next year? Teter keeps their top 2, correct? Theta should be good. DG?

Anonymous said...

False ^
She can't accelerate as well as the DG girl.

Also, Sharp won MNO and was a nonfactor in the race. So evidently, MNO isn't always the best sign of the best sprinter. It's a lot harder when you have been racing for an hour or two

DG returns Doogs, Phillips, Loebig.

Someone should have Jordan look at this video, They have Kappa finishing behind DSP, which is wrong. They aren't even out of the turn with everyone else. THe would need to be behind Wing It and they clearly are not.

Anonymous said...

watch kath in any practice (which you out of towner commenters probably never see) and you'll see she's got pop. not after 1 hour, but she'll have to train for that next year

Anonymous said...

no pop after one hour? she rode what maybe thirty minutes max? If you don't have pop after that try training more and building some endurance.

Anonymous said...

Kath has plenty of "pop", after 1 hour or 30 minutes, or any amount of time you want to talk about. Losing this sprint was not a matter of pop, but a the fact that she went too early and laid down her sprint going across the line at 1 lap to go, not coming out of turn two like she probably should have, given the conditions.

Any of you haters that want to talk about Kath's "pop", I'd would almost certainly bet that you couldn't come around her on a Little 5 bike. Also, seemed to be plenty of pop to put Wing-It and Teter's "sprinters" 10 bike lengths out the back by turn 3...

Why do all the good female riders look like men? It's highly disappointing. They look like soft ball players...

Anonymous said...

I don't know but Tennessee has the hottest softball players alive, sooooo

gowdy & laure HOF. 2x champs

they should make a HOF for crashes too

Anonymous said...

@10:12 they are not HOF. would've have been had their coach not cost them a third straight ring.

Anonymous said...

Any HOF news last night?

Anonymous said...

CVK & Young & Schwags

Anonymous said...

Schwag? Really? Hmmm

Anonymous said...

on the ballot, or actually voted in?

Anonymous said...

Tom was on the ballot this year. CVK and Young were inducted based on last year's vote.

Anonymous said...

Why Tom? I know you can argue he is a great coach....blah! Why not Jim K. He has 1,000 rings and is still with the team he started with. It seems like every where Tom goes he is soon asked to leave.

Out of the current women's coaches I would not place Tom in the top 3.

Anonymous said...

Obviously you were not elegible to vote. Tom was on the ballot, the vote has not been announced. He was nominated by HoF members.

Anonymous said...

If I am not mistaken he is on that committee, No?

Geraint Parry said...

It is HoF nepotism BUT he is deserving (btw does IUSF have an email/phone number of all HoFers). He has done a huge amount for many teams especially in the Womens race, won the race a few times and was in the vanguard of the Womens race getting serious.
I'd be interested to know where the suggestion came from and why now? I feel he's been worthy for a lot of years before this.

One of the girls who started the girls race and rode for him said something in her speech at the banquet about it being the 25th running of their race. I was in the back and couldn't hear very well I also heard someone in the back say he was hanging it up.

kath will get HOF next year

Anonymous said...

one of the women who started the womens race...

Anonymous said...

It just seems odd because I am good friends with several HOF members and none of them where contacted by IUSF at all. So who are these HOFers who nominated him?

Not saying he should be on the ballot, but...I think this should be clearly stated by IUSF on who people are placed on the ballot.

I agree with GP on this one. Tom definitely deserves to be in there. In all honesty, he has probably hurt his legacy in the last few years by bouncing from team to team, but his longevity and body of work warrant the accolade.

Anonymous said...

I just struggle because Tom has been very public on this board and others about some riders getting in the HOF or not. While Tom has had some success I do not see his work being as great as many current or past coaches who are not currently in the HOF.

Todd said...

There are definitely other coaches that are deserving, but that doesn't lessen his worthiness. He has rings with AKAK and Thetas, he's been around the race for 30+ and championed various issues (women's race, women's gearing, coaches, etc.). One may not agree with him or his methods, but he has had a significant impact on the race and he has had success.

Anonymous said...

I more question his motives. He champions for issues for the good of this race or the good of Tom.

HOF -Sure

Ass- Sure

Todd said...

LOL 10:55 - this is probably before your time, but a very similar comment about Tom in relation to the student coach issue is what got me banned from his website.

Todd

Not before my time at all. Your statement alone speaks volumes about Tom. "His Website" If you have a form board P&S and you are a person who is constantly wanting to be the center of attention like Tom. It is very covenant to be able to devoice the people who oppose you.

Todd said...

I chose my words for that specific reason.

What did everyone think about them putting the Tom speech before the banquet started? It caused everyone to talk through the entire thing and it was while people were trying to get their food. It also went on way too long.

I feel like it was disrespectful to him and the history of the women's race to have hardly anyone listening, but it was poorly set up and that's why it happened.

Also, as soon as the banquet was over a men's team took their trophy and smashed in the street right in front of doors to leave and left in laying in the street while cars were running over it. Not only does IUSF pay for these trophies, but to do it right in the street and just leave it there is appalling. We expect nothing but the best from IUSF, and that's the type of treatment some riders give back. That is inexcusable and I would ban them from the next banquet.

I won't name the frat, but they know who they are.

Belva Lockwood said...

As odd as it may seem, I agree with Todd on this one - Tom's done a lot for the race and anybody who's ever ridden for him will tell you that he's done a lot for his riders as well. I agree that some of his methods and issues he gets involved in may not be the best, but he's passionate about it, he's devoted a hell of a lot of time and energy (and $$) into L5 and he's been around FOREVER.

Does that make him HOF worthy? I'm not sure, but I think it does preclude him to a certain degree of respect. I personally disagree with some of the things he's done and the way he's handled some issues, but it doesn't change the fact that he's contributed a lot to the race and to many young men and women who go on to succeed.

Anonymous said...

Who was the frat that's childish enough to smash their trophy!?

Anonymous said...

It was one of 2 top 8 teams, but I do not want to list both since one of them would be incorrectly mentioned.

Anonymous said...

So frats out of the top 8 (assuming delts wouldn't smash the winner's trophy) are Phi Delt, Sig Chi, Theta Chi, Beta.

Anonymous said...

I agree w/Belva Lockwood

I was involved in 2005-2007 and I am pretty sure that without Tom's help we would have been riding a 46-20 gear and there would be no alumni coaches in the pit.

Let's be clear - Tom had zero involvement with overturning the Alumni Coaches rule. He was instramental in making a lot of noise, but the call to overturn came from a much higher calling. Additionally, the influence to make that overturn was much, much more than organizing a student rally or rider protest.

I''ll give him some credit for influencing the change of the women's gear back to 46-18, but let's not make Tom out to be some Little 5 messiah. Even that call came for much higher/forceful influence.

I think Tom has been a big part of the race for the past 30+ years, but so have a lot of people that aren't in the hall of fame. Tom by his very nature is self promoting and often times (I'll stress NOT always) self serving. Maybe that gets you in the HoF, maybe it doesn't. I suppose that's up to the vote.

I guess I'm just a little confused by IUSF choosing to constantly bring him back in the fold and celebrate him. Especially, since he often times just tens around and burns them.

I understand there was a video shown or someone was videoing the 'Tom portion' of the banquet. If anyone has video that could you please send it on to me and I'll post it as I think it'll be of general interest.

I would like to see the other speeches as well, in regards to the HOF.
