Thomas Morris

From Grant Small:
Sometime on Thursday afternoon, Tom Morris (Athletics Coach for IU and Strength Coach for Sigma Chi) went out on a ride by himself and at some point fell.
No one currently knows if he was hit by a car or if he fell for other reasons. He was found unconscious on the side of the road by a passerby sometime that afternoon and was rushed to Bloomington hospital. It was determined he had a broken neck, so he was flown by helicopter to Methodist hospital in Indianapolis. He had surgery to stabilize his spine early Friday morning. Please think of Tom in your prayers today.
The Little 500 means so much to him and I just cannot think of another individual that shows the true spirit of the race than Tom. http://www.iuhoosiers.com/genrel/morris_thomas00.html
Lastly and importantly if anyone knows anything about the incident please contact local authorities who are actively working the case.

The Herald-Times story more accurately reflects what happened:

An Indiana University strength and conditioning coach was injured in a bike accident Thursday afternoon at the Wapehani Mountain Bike Park.

Officers found 32-year-old Tom Morris, who told police that he was riding his bike, crashed and may have flipped over the handlebars. Morris said he had been lying on the ground for about three hours and could not feel anything below his chest, according to Bloomington police Sgt. John Kovach.

An officer first was approached by a passerby on the 2800 block of West Wapehani Road about 3:45 p.m. Thursday. This person reported a man was lying on the ground by a bike on the trail.
